The Importance of Being Earnest

15th to 19th August 2017 at New Wimbledon Studio Theatre

Directed by Val Foskett

A Trivial Comedy for Serious People by Oscar Wilde

JACK: Gwendolen, it is a terrible thing for a man to find out suddenly that all his life he has been speaking nothing but the truth. Can you forgive me?

GWENDOLEN: I can. For I feel that you are sure to change.

Two smart young men, Jack Worthing and Algernon Moncrieff are both leading double lives in town and country.  When Algernon gatecrashes Jack’s country life, two romances are thrown into jeopardy.  And how can so much indignation be generated by a handbag?

A farcical satire on manners and morals with the brilliant polished humour for which Wilde is celebrated.
